Where did the idea for the story come from?

Before this novel I wrote a novel where the female protagonist dresses and behaves like a guy, because she dives under after a successful robbery. This had so many funny moments I saw the potential for more. During my bodyswitch research I found out this could be told funnier than in the past – plus: what if one doesn’t want to switch back! With that idea I had to write it.

Give a quote from the books, one that says little but speaks volumes.

In front of a fancy makeup mirror framed by 24 glowing low-energy bulbs I feel like a rock star even this early, before school.

Excerpt

Prep talk by his (now her!) boxing coach:

– Franky, that’s it, your first fight, a spar, but sparring is still a fight. Now’s the time to fight hard. And just like in a real fight you’ve got to give it your all. Some coaches in this position would tell you, you should believe in yourself, but that’s Barbie. You shouldn’t believe, Franky, you gotta know it, know, who you are. You’re the strongest, well trained, fast, perseverant, with a solid hook and a jab Superman wouldn’t see comin’. Think about your defense too, fists up, together, and elbows to the body. Put all your anger into your punch. Think of all those Grade Twelve guys who will snatch away your girlfriends, all the skanks who will cheat on you and about the guy who she’ll divorce you for. The rules are clear, the goal’s in sight. No school, no parents, no lawyers, no Revenue Canada, no prisoners. Boxing is like Vietnam, only without guns and trees; if you know what I mean. Hit him fast and precise and watch through your fists how he falls to the floor. Ok and now quiet, calm yourself. When I bang the gong, then you’re a man! A man understood? Then there’s no going back. No childhood. Computer games are over, that’s unworthy, it’s history, past, finito. Good-bye. Stand up and show it! Show what you’ve got! Show him what man you are!

I’m still nodding, and for the first time, I see my opponent, who is standing in the middle of the ring bobbing from one leg to the other.

What a babe!

He has a six-pack like an underwear model.

What in the world am I doing here?
