Despite everything this year, I have had four family members move house and two new babies have come into the family.
That should be a happy time, but it’s been sad. My sister in law was saying how they have spent nearly thirty years living in a large Victoria house, and moved to somewhere completely different. From a fairly built up area, they have gone into rural Yorkshire and bought an open plan apartment in a converted mill factory. She said although they love it, some of the pleasure has been taken from it because they have not been able to show it off.
At the beginning of the year, my daughter moved from a semi detached house in built up Manchester to a farm house in Anglesey. It’s huge in comparison to how they lived before. They now have fields and barns and it is a beautiful place to bring up children.
My nieces all moved into houses and flats, too. Under normal circumstances I would have been straight over sharing the excitement.
I’m lucky that one of the babies is my daughters who lives not far from me and we were immediately able to create a family bubble, so I saw him regularly. But my sister has become a Grandma for the first time and her daughter now has her own little girl. Thank goodness Facebook. I don’t know when I’ll ever get to see her.
I was also looking forward to being there when other members of the family came to see my daughters house. It is in such a beautiful location with views towards the mountains. She naturally wants to show it off. As does my sister in law.
It’s sad on so many counts. This was supposed to be our year, by now we would have had memories of our ruby wedding cruise to Iceland. The first time we would have been on a ship.
With all that happening, it would have been a momentous year. How is has it affected you? How have you kept busy with so much time on your hands?
If you follow my blog, you will know I contributed to this, during lockdown, and I’m very proud of it. I’ve another anthology coming out shortly, so more news about that will follow.
So if you have time to spare, take a look, have a read, and leave us a short review.
