How Do You Choose Your Next Book?

by Karen J Mossman

I always have a book on the go. It’s the way I relax and you know it’s a good story when you think about it between reads, and you can’t wait to get back to it.

I see books all the time. The first thing that draws me is the cover. The picture on the front has to grab and pull me straight into the description. There was a time when I couldn’t stop hitting that buy button because the description sounded so good. These days I will only buy if it is on Kindle Unlimited, because I’m addicted to books, and it had to stop!

I finished reading and enjoyed The Doom Murders and immediately went onto The 11:05 Murders. This is a five book series featuring a Belfast detective. Check them out here. I’m still reading the second one, but seem to be struggling. It wasn’t grabbing me, although a good story and easy to read. I stopped and read a short book. It wasn’t very satisfying, so I read some more of 11:05. I’m currently on page 165 out of 377, and I’m just not feeling it, Perhaps I am not in a crime mood, which is more about me than the book. I’m sure I will go back and finish it at some point.

I aimless started looking for something to grab me, something intriguing and easy to read; something that would make me think about it when I’m busy doing other things.

As I looked on my Kindle my eyes fell on those I’d read and loved. Cocktail, Wedding Bells and Summer Madness by Julia Sutton. That was an enjoyable book. Character and situation driven with people and places I liked. If Only She Knew by Louise Mercer was just the same with a little more intrigue. I wanted something like that. Julia Blake’s Chaining Daisy was further up the line, good story, plot and gritty, no hold barred. I like a little sex in the story, not graphic, but enough to satisfy, if you know what I mean! All those have been returned to Kindle Unlimited, so don’t show.

There are several books on there that I started because they sounded good, but failed to deliver. Saving Sam, I really fancied, but there is too much sex right at the start, which is okay, but I wanted story and plot! Although I may go back to that at some point.

Many of those showing I’ve read before I decided to stick with Kindle Unlimited. Then I spotted it right down in the corner. Just Rose by L. T. Marshall. My favourite read of last year. I had been putting it off because it was a big book. Julia Blake once said the size of the book doesn’t matter if its a great story. They were right. That one was just brilliant! I wanted that again, and for a moment considered re-reading it but the story line is too fresh.

I then remembered I had another one of hers, The Carrero Effect. It is a series, which is why I didn’t want to get into it, apart from it being a whopping 473 pages long. Having already opened several books, none of the caught my attention, I started reading this.

Oh wow! I’m on page 146, and was probably hooked by page 10!

Great writing, great characters, and intriguing, a bit like Julia Blakes’ books, really. As I do jobs round the house, or update blogs, always at the back of my mine is this story. What are they doing now? What’s going to happen next? All I can say, is Oh boy! Just wait for my review.

Book Description

EMMA ANDERSON has everything in her life worked out.
She has a perfect job in a Manhattan empire, allowing her to live a quiet, organised and safe existence. A necessity after a childhood filled with abuse, bad memories, and a mother who was less than useless.
She’s worked hard to get where she is – and she has just landed an amazing promotion.
But it comes with a problem – and one that could derail everything she thought she needed in her life.
Emma’s new role is as the right-hand man for billionaire playboy JAKE CARRERO. He’s exactly the type of person who could drive her crazy – and not in a good way.
Chalk and cheese – he is everything she’s not. Compulsive, dominant and confident, with a seriously laid-back attitude to casual sex and dating.
Jake is the only one with the ability to steamroll over Emma’s manicured, ice maiden exterior. But Emma has no desire to let anyone close enough to hurt her again.
Jake needs to show Emma that even someone like him can change when that one girl that matters walks into your life.
Loveable, sexy characters, and deep emotional topics.
Contains some mature, adult content, and language.
