Description

As a former motocross competitor and X Games television commentator, Cristiano Romero knows a little bit about competition and drama, but he hadn’t ever seen anything like he did the day he went to buy a suit for a charity event. Although he encountered Jordan on what might’ve been the worst day of her life, he was impressed by her ability to hold it together under fire.

When Jordan Shepherd was hired by an up-and-coming designer in New York, she thought she was going to have a chance to make her mark as a fashion designer. An afternoon from hell made her dreams vanish and humiliated her in front of the most attractive man she’d seen in forever. To save her sanity, Jordan walked away from her career and returned home to face the music. Jordan is tired of everyone else deciding what her version of happily ever after should look like. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a good track record of finding happy endings either.

With the future of his show on the line, Cristiano chooses the path not taken and gambles on Jordan Shepherd. He didn’t count on Jordan sewing up a lot more than just his suit.

Karen’s Magic Review

I hadn’t read any of this author’s books before and she is a prolific writer. I think the main reason is that all of them are part of a series. Mary Crawford has more than 20 books to her name.

Paths Not Taken is her latest one and was released in August 2017. I was given a copy to read and review before it was published. A great honour.

I quickly realised that although this is part of a series, it is a standalone book. I believe the some of the others are too.

Although I enjoyed the characters and the stories, I did at times feel that some of the sub-characters were people that had appeared in previous stories. They were there as if they had always been there and the reader would know exactly who there were. This didn’t really matter as the story line was a good one and the main characters were strong.

Cristiano Romaro is the lead male’s name and I must admit he had me on that alone. Certainly, a sexy book boyfriend name and his physical appearance certainly lived up to it. He was lovely!

Each of the chapters was divided up into the first person taking turns between Cristiano and Jordan. This gave the reader a good chance to see how the other one was feeling about each other. And I always think it’s nice to get into someone’s head.

I don’t know anything about the fashion industry and so I found this side of the story fascinating. I had never thought about some of the issues it brought up and found it quite intriguing at times. The author had certainly done her research.

This is a sweet, no sex love story. Not that Cristiano and Jordan were celibate, far from it! But most books do take the reader under the covers as part of the story line. This one doesn’t, it’s there, but that side is left to the imagination.

A nice story, a little different from my usual read, but that’s not a bad thing at all.
